How to House Train Your Puppy in 7 Days

Introduction

House training is one of the first and most important skills you will teach your new puppy. With consistency and patience, most puppies can be fully house trained within 4-6 weeks.

Step 1: Establish a Routine

Puppies thrive on routine. Take your puppy outside first thing in the morning, after meals, after naps, and before bedtime.

Step 2: Choose a Designated Spot

Always take your puppy to the same spot in your yard. The familiar scent will encourage them to go.

Step 3: Reward Success

When your puppy goes in the right spot, immediately praise them and offer a small treat.

Step 4: Supervise Closely

When indoors, keep your puppy in sight or confined to a small area. Watch for signs they need to go: sniffing, circling, or heading to the door.

Step 5: Handle Accidents Calmly

If you catch your puppy in the act, interrupt with a gentle "outside" and take them to their spot. Never punish accidents after the fact.
